1lb hamburger

25% beans/lentils (canned or cooked from dry, any beans are fine, I like red kidney best because it has great nutritional value)
10% veggies (I usually use Normandy frozen mix, which is broccoli, cauliflower, squash and carrots)
5-10% starch (rice, potatoes, pasta)


First I boil the hamburger, to remove the excess fat. I find making it into meatballs works good for this. I only add a little water to the pan and put the lid on it.

Drain off the fat, and break up the hamburger, add beans and garlic powder and cook until hamburger is done. Add the starch, just a little to absorb whatever water and fat is left. Once your starch is mostly cooked through, top with fresh veggies and steam for about 15-20 minutes until they are also done.

Serve heated through. Let cool for a few minutes. I make this in 5lb hamburger batches, so I store the rest and heat it up in the microwave prior to serving for 2-3 minutes depending on how much I am heating up.

Top with shredded cheese, fresh fruit, green beans, ect if desired.

Please note, I always give my bullies a supplement (NuVet Plus) and especially when feeding home cooked to be sure they are getting all the proper balanced nutrition.

This is a base diet, you can change proteins to other sources such as chicken, lamb, salmon, ect. as you go. I recommend trying only 1 new ingredient at a time and use it for one week to see if there is any problem with the new ingredient.
